![]() I'm also glad you stuck with the 490R/498T pickup combination. I think this was the right choice as well, as I find they are more eye-pleasing. Also, Gibson switched from the metallic top hat knobs to the standard gold knobs. So kudos to Gibson for offering more variety. I'm very pleased that Gibson has expanded the number of finishes from two to four which are Cherry, Iced Tea, Honey, and Tobacco (though I find it odd that Gibson's own website only shows Tobacco and Iced Tea as options, while the other two are available on every retailer's website). However I have to say the 2019 model is disappointing to say the least.įirst I'll start with the good. Of all the Gibson Les Paul models, I thought the Tribute line was the "perfect storm" of quality, beauty, and affordability. And, it’s not like the bridge as it is is unplayable or anything. For the last few years I have loved the Tribute Les Pauls. The bridge, yeah, I wish Gibson would fix that design, but some simple spacers or a mod bar can get the string end wraps past the saddles (or, of course, one can buy a replacement bridge). Maybe still some foam if needed in relation to feedback or something. My first thought on the pickup is that a block of wood could be stuck in there to mount it to (with the block in turn glued into the cavity. Meanwhile, the light weight, the no neck dive, the classic looks - can’t believe it, but I’m intrigued. I like the middle position-mounted pickup, and my first impression was that the split coil position could be generally useful, while the full humbucker position could be used for more of a special beefy thing. I was not expecting to be interested in this bass in terms of actually buying, but now I want to check one out for myself in a shop at least. ![]()
